History and Foundation

GITAM was founded in 1980 by Dr. M. V. V. S. Murthi, an eminent philanthropist, and educationist, with the aim of providing quality higher education to students in Andhra Pradesh and beyond. Initially established as an engineering college, the institution expanded its offerings over the years to include multiple disciplines such as management, law, pharmacy, science, and liberal arts.

In 2007, GITAM was conferred the status of a University by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, which was a significant milestone in its growth.
